Recently, our Foundation Dentists past and future met and had a scrumptious dinner! We caught up on what each had been up to since moving on from Padstow Dental Practice: Marketa has moved to Bournemouth, Dayan is back for August and wants to learn to play golf and Stephen has taken up surfing in Newquay!
Another academic year over, so we say a fond farewell to our FD Nika, who returns to her home city of London. Therefore for the month of August we welcome a familiar face back to the practice, Dayan. Dayan has been working at the Oral and Maxillofacial department of Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, where he has gained great expertise in surgical dentistry.
From the 1st September we will be welcoming Brian Needham to the practice, a graduate of Pensinsula Dental School. Brian is also a qualified paramedic and is looking forward to meeting and treating you over the coming year.
From May 19th to June 19th is National Smile Month. This is the UK's largest and longest-running oral health campaign It promotes three key messages:
- Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
- Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks
- Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
All through National Smile Month, Padstow Dental Practice will be giving ALL children who attend a free goody bag, to help promote good oral care.
The team at Padstow Dental Practice would like to wish all our patients (past, present and future!) and friends a very Merry Christmas.
You can see our CQC report (which we passed!) here: http://www.cqc.org.uk/node/306426
At the end of August we welcomed Sue as the newest member of our team. Sue has recently moved down to Cornwall and is qualified dental nurse.
New in stock!
Want to keep your mouth minty fresh all day long? AND help your teeth at the same time? Why not try NEW Peppersmith mints and chewing gum, which we sell here at the practice for only £1.50. Peppersmith mints and gum contain the ingredient xylitol - which studies show can dramatically reduce new tooth decay and even stop and possibly reverse existing dental caries.
For more information about xylitol and it's benefits, visit: http://www.xylitol.org/why-use-xylitol

As of August 1st we welcomed our new Foundation Dentist, Nika Kolabi to the practice. Nika qualified in July from Barts and the London Medical and Dental School (Queen Mary's University) in London. Our previous Foundation Dentist, Dayan, is now working as a hospital dentist in Taunton.
Our nurse Toni also welcomed a new arrival in August - a baby girl! Congratulations to Toni and family.
May Day has been and gone for another year in Padstow, so Summer has finally 'a-come!' With the lovely weather (here's hoping it stays!), we often forget about things such as dental appointments. Here at Padstow Dental Practice we offer SMS text or phone call reminders - so next time you have an appointment with us, make sure we have your correct mobile and home phone numbers so we can contact you. If for whatever reason you are unable to make an appointment, if possible please let us know with 24 hours notice as your appointment could be used by somebody else.
After all the excitement of Christmas 2012 and bringing in the New Year, our News page has been left slightly out of date! Our belated New Years Resolution is to keep you more regularly updated.
We've said goodbye to a much loved Dental Nurse, Jenni Murphy, and we wish her the best of luck in her new job.
We've welcomed Emma Murphy (no relation!) to the practice who has come back to Dental Nursing after a baby break. She will be taking her NEBDN Dental Nursing exam in the near future.
Our current FD (Foundation Dentist,) Dayan, has settled right in to the Padstow Dental Practice team and he has proved to be a very hard working, patient and caring Dentist. Whislt we shall be sad to see him go in August, we know he shall have a very succsessful future career.
National Smile Month:
The British Dental Association's National Smile Month takes place between 20th May and 20th June 2013. This month is a 'great opportunity for us to learn a little more about our oral health and find out just why it is so important to our overall well-being' (see www.nationalsmilemonth.org for more information). We shall keep you updated both here on the website and in the practice with our plans and activities .
However, here at Padstow Dental Practice, we believe smiling should be for everday - not just National Smile month! So if you would like some help and advice for improving and/or maintaining your smile, why not pop in or book an appointment. Contact information is on the left.

From August, we shall welcome Dayan Jesuthasan as our new VT to Padstow Dental Practice. Dayan (or 'DJ') also comes to us from Peninsula Dental School and we look forward to welcoming him to the team and introducing him to you over the coming months.
